About
First off, thanks for visiting this website. I hope you find it fun and interesting and will keep coming back. π
WHO AM I?
I am a full-time filmmaker and part-time architect living mostly in Los Angeles and sometimes in Munich.
I started off in the photography world shooting negative film on architecture, often waiting long periods for a shot just to make sure no humans would spoil the photo with their presence. I have thousands of Kodachrome slides of beautiful uninhabited spaces that would make Atget jealous.
Then I bought myself a Canon Powershot. That’s when my photography skills went from good to non-existent. I have hard drives full with photos of family and friends screaming into the camera.
In 2011, I got the photo bug again when my husband, O, dropped a Leica M9 in my lap. It was a gift I could not refuse. The camera said, “Street, shoot the streets!” So in August 2011 I began my odyssey into the world of street photography. It’s a passion that now fills my hard drives with an occasional worthy image to look at.
WHAT’S THIS BLOG ABOUT?
This blog is about following my renewed photographic interests, especially street, photo journalism, photography and anything related to it. I see myself as a student. I am not an expert or a professional in this arena. I love to learn and share. It will showcase work from photographers and people related to photography who inspire me as well as my own humble work. It will also include reviews of the lessons I learn from workshops or classes along the way. Of course Leica related gadgets, equipment, or inspired stuff will have priority- particularly the fun stuff. O has reserved a corner in this blog, calling it his ‘Man Shack’ where he’ll post anything. He’s the gadget freak of our family. I will endeavor to post anything we (the photographic community) can all learn or benefit from.
Cheers,
Your Leica Liker (aka ewanglee)

Thanks for your kind words Norbert! Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. Had family issues.
..just .. wowow! love your black&white shots!! quite happy that i found your blog:)
kind regards from berlin,
anton
Hi Anton- Thanks for your kind words. Sorry about not responding sooner. I had family issues. Greetings from Los Angeles.
Very interesting pictures, and as they say ” A photographer without a style is like a pub without beer”. You got style. I can kind of tell that your background is film, it just shows in the picture and composition. Very refreshing . Leica S2 ? I have been in doubt for a long time but went for mid format ” PhaseOne” instead.
Hi Steve: I am totally blushing. Thanks for your kind words. Sorry I didn’t respond earlier. I was sick at the time you wrote and I had family issues. I don’t have an S2- wish I did of course. I think the Phase One is cool. I use the M9 and M240.
Thanks and don’t worry, I hope you got well meanwhile. The S2 was a candidate as well when I stepped over to mid format. But because it was not an open system in the sence that I can not use the digital back on other devices I decided not to . The Phase One allows me to place the DB on different Camera’s. S2 is an integrated solution, yet the camera body is very good. Have a nice day and thanks for your reply
Hi there, what amazing energy your blog has. Stumbled over whilst searching for Monochrom articles. Great pictures ! A fellow Leica user too. Steven.
Hi SVL- Hope you saw my response. π
Hi Ewang, yes, only just. These WP messages are hard to locate. AM thinking of getting an M9 now that prices have dropped. Any regrets? I have the M8 for since 2011.
Hi SVL- The jump from M8 to M9 is huge. I have no regrets with my M9. I love it. Made some great photos with it. Plus- shutter sounds better. Hehe. Maybe you should get a new ME. Or…M9P. If I was buying today. I’d go for ME. Let me know what you decide to get. π
Been eyeing a used M9P at a Leica specialist recently… Perhaps. By the way if you are in to portraiture, have a look at http://www.klphotoawards.com. I initiated it and currently calling for entries.
Dear svllee:
Thanks for the kind words. It’s cool to hear from a fellow Leica user.
Happy Shooting. And please come back for a visit.
Cheers, E

Hi Tony- Nice meeting you too. One of my best shots has you in the starring role. π I am working on my post. May take a week or so.
Hi
Who said ” A Leica was like the cod who lays 1000 eggs in case on hatches”? Old age has rotted my memory. I thought it was H G Wells but I can’t find in reference to this via internet . Is there chance you might know ? I’ve never owned a Leica, too expensive. I have been a pro photographer since 1956 and now retired, but, still can’t afford one . Have settled for Nikon. It was touch and go between that and Canon.and have been using Nikon, film and digital, since around 1972. Film Nikon Purchased in Japan via trade contacts . Thanks
Hi Derek:
Sorry- I have not heard the saying and can’t seem to find anything about it. Perhaps you could email the Leica store in L.A. or even in Wetzlar. They might be able to to dig it up.
As for a cheap Leica- I think you can find a Leica film camera for reasonable money. A M4 is around $650.00 these days on eBay.I used to shoot with Nikon and had great results and fond memories of them. But now Nikon is simply too complex a camera (I mean the digital ones) for me. Hey- thank you for stopping by my website. Maybe you can let me know what you find out about the saying. I will continue to look. If I do hear something, I’ll give ou a shout.
Cheers.
